What is going on
When a dryer runs its full cycle and the clothes come out damp and cool, the drive system is fine but the heat source has quit or been shut down for its own protection. Gas dryers depend on an igniter, a gas valve, and flame sensing. Electric dryers rely on a heating element and a chain of thermostats and fuses. Onyx Appliance Service has diagnosed both for 24 years, on everything from Whirlpool and Maytag workhorses to Electrolux, LG, Samsung, and Asko machines.
There is a pattern worth knowing. The most common trigger for a dryer with no heat is a restricted vent. Lint builds until airflow collapses, temperatures spike, and a thermal fuse sacrifices itself to prevent a fire. Replacing the fuse without clearing the vent guarantees a repeat, and worse, it leaves a genuine fire hazard in place. Our factory trained technicians repair the failed component and verify airflow before we consider the job finished.
The diagnostic is $95, waived with your repair. We are open daily from 7am to 7pm with same day service across Los Angeles and Southern California, and every repair is backed by the 3 Year Onyx Warranty in writing.
The usual suspects
What fails inside a dryer that will not heat.
Heating element failure
In electric dryers the coil simply burns through with age, often after years of restricted airflow. We test continuity, replace the element with a genuine OEM part, and correct the airflow problem that shortened its life.
Gas igniter and flame sensor
A weak igniter glows but never lights the burner, and a failed flame sensor shuts the gas off seconds after ignition. We test the full ignition sequence and replace the component that failed.
Thermal fuse and thermostats
These safety devices cut heat when the dryer overheats, and they do not reset. A blown fuse is a symptom, not the disease. We replace it and find the overheating cause behind it.
Gas valve solenoids
The coils that open the gas valve weaken with heat cycles, producing a dryer that heats on the first load and quits on the second. We test the coils and replace them as a set.
Vent restriction
A vent run packed with lint is the root cause behind most heat failures and a documented fire risk. We clear the duct from the dryer to the exterior termination and verify airflow before we leave.
Control board and timer faults
When the board never calls for heat, everything downstream sits idle. We confirm voltage at the heat circuit before condemning any part, then replace the board or timer only if it truly failed.
Cold tumbling has perhaps six realistic causes, and half of them trace back to airflow. A factory trained Onyx technician tests the full heat circuit, clears the restriction that caused the failure, and fits genuine OEM parts, so the repair holds and the dryer runs safely.
Why it cannot wait
A cold dryer can hide a fire risk.
Lint restriction is a leading cause of dryer fires in American homes, and it is also the most common reason a dryer stops heating. Running the machine anyway pushes temperatures higher inside the cabinet. Add the laundry piling up for a busy household, and this is a repair that rewards a same day call.

Questions, answered
Before you call.
What does dryer repair cost?
The diagnostic visit is $95, waived when you proceed with the repair. You approve a firm quote for parts and labor before any work begins. Most heat repairs are completed in a single visit.
Can you repair my dryer today?
In most of Los Angeles and Southern California, yes. We are open daily from 7am to 7pm. Call (747) 777-9728 to confirm same day availability in your area.
Do you work on both gas and electric dryers?
Yes, across all major brands, including Whirlpool, Maytag, LG, Samsung, Electrolux, Asko, Bosch, GE, GE Profile, KitchenAid, Amana, and Frigidaire. Onyx is an independent company, not affiliated with any manufacturer.
Should I repair or replace a dryer that will not heat?
Repair, in most cases. Heat failures usually come down to an element, an igniter, a fuse, or the vent, all modest repairs against the cost of a new machine and installation. We give you a straight recommendation either way after diagnosis.
Is the repair warrantied?
Yes. Every repair includes the 3 Year Onyx Warranty covering parts and labor, in writing, and we verify vent airflow before we leave so the fix lasts.
