GE ovens and ranges in Los Angeles
GE ranges do the daily cooking in more Calabasas and Agoura Hills kitchens than any badge we service, from slide in gas ranges in remodeled ranch houses to double wall ovens in newer Hidden Hills builds. After 24 years working on them, the pattern list is short and stable. The gas models come in with a glow bar igniter that has weakened until the oven will not light or takes 20 minutes to reach temperature. The electric models arrive with a dead radiant element or an infinite switch that will not hold a setting, and behind both sits the oven control board.
Guessing is expensive on a GE range because three different failures produce the same cold oven. A glow bar that lights but never pulls full current, a tired control board relay and a burned element all present as a preheat that will not finish, and they carry three different part prices. We diagnose first and quote before any work begins. The visit is a $95 diagnostic, waived with your repair. We fit genuine OEM parts matched to your model, keep the common ones on the truck, run same or next day appointments and back the work with a 3 Year Onyx Warranty.
What actually fails
Where a GE range gives out first.
Glow bar oven igniter
The igniter glows orange yet never draws the current the gas safety valve needs, so the burner hangs unlit through a long preheat or never fires at all. A weak igniter looks fine to the eye, which is why we measure amperage.
Radiant surface element
On electric GE cooktops a radiant element quits outright or heats on one arc of the coil while the rest stays dark. We test the element and its wiring harness before replacing anything, because a melted terminal block mimics a dead element.
Infinite switch
The burner control that cycles power to each element wears until a burner runs full blast on low or drops out mid simmer. GE mounts them behind the knobs, and a scorched switch often takes its wiring connector with it.
Oven control board
The board relays that switch bake and broil stick open or weld shut, so the oven ignores its set temperature or heats with the display dark. We test relay output at the board before condemning it, since sensors fail the same way.
Oven temperature sensor
A drifted sensor tells the board the cavity is hotter or colder than it is, so bakes run long and roasts come out pale. The fix is a resistance check at temperature and a matched replacement probe, not a thermostat guess.
Door hinge and gasket
Sagging hinges and a flattened gasket bleed heat at the door line, stretching preheat and baking unevenly from front to back. Both are quick mechanical repairs that restore temperature stability without touching a single electrical part.

Questions, answered
Before you call.
Do you repair GE ovens and ranges?
Yes, gas and electric, freestanding and slide in. Onyx Appliance Service is an independent company, not affiliated with or authorized by GE Appliances. Most calls trace to a weakened glow bar igniter, a failed radiant element or infinite switch, or an oven control board that has stopped switching its relays.
Why does my GE oven take so long to preheat?
Start with the igniter. On a GE gas range the glow bar weakens with age until it glows without ever opening the gas valve fully, so preheat crawls or the oven never lights. We confirm it with an amperage reading, then replace the igniter in one visit.
What does a GE oven and range repair cost?
GE cooking repairs are priced from the diagnosis, never over the phone. You pay a $95 diagnostic that is waived with your repair, and you approve an exact quote before any work begins. One Quote. One Price. Guaranteed Repair. No Supplemental Estimates.
Do you use genuine GE parts?
Every part we install is genuine OEM, matched to your model and serial before we order or pull it from the truck. No aftermarket substitutes. Igniters, elements, switches and sensors ride on the truck already, which is why most GE cooking repairs finish in a single visit.
Is the repair covered by a warranty?
Before we leave, the coverage goes in writing. Every GE oven and range repair carries the 3 Year Onyx Warranty on both parts and labor, documented at the time of service, so if the same fault returns you call us and we handle it.
