Whirlpool washer repair · Los Angeles

Laundry stops the moment a Whirlpool washer fills, hums and will not spin. More often than not that is the VMW shift actuator announcing itself with an F7 E1 code, and it does not heal on its own.

Whirlpool washers in Los Angeles

Whirlpool builds the workhorse laundry of Los Angeles. In the hillside homes of Sherman Oaks and Studio City and the newer builds of Porter Ranch, these washers run daily for families, guest houses and back of house laundry rooms, and they fail in patterns we know by heart. The VMW top load machines quit spinning when the shift actuator gives out. Cabrio and Bravos units throw F51 or flag uL against a balanced load. Duet front loaders develop the low rumble of a worn tub bearing and corroded spider arm. After 24 years inside these machines, our technicians recognize the fault before the toolbox opens.

Guessing is expensive on this machine. A washer that will not spin can be a worn actuator, a drifting sensor or the main control, and the wrong part swapped on a hunch costs twice, once for the part and again for the visit that follows. We diagnose before we quote. A factory trained technician runs a $95 diagnostic, waived with your repair, isolates the true fault and gives you an exact price before any work begins. We carry genuine OEM parts for the failures above, so most repairs finish same or next day. Everything we do is covered by the 3 Year Onyx Warranty.

What actually fails

The faults we see most on Whirlpool washers.

VMW shift actuator, F7 E1

The most common failure on modern Whirlpool top load washers. The shift actuator moves the transmission between agitate and spin, and when it fails the tub fills, agitates, then sits silent and full of water while the control logs F7 E1.

Cabrio and Bravos rotor position sensor, F51 and uL

Cabrio and Bravos platforms read basket speed through a rotor position sensor under the drive. When it drifts, the washer stalls mid cycle, throws F51, or flags uL on a load that is perfectly balanced. We test the sensor and harness before replacing either.

Basket bearing failure

A Whirlpool top load washer that roars in spin like a jet has worn its basket bearing. Left alone, the noise grows and the seal begins to weep. We pull the basket, inspect the shaft and rebuild with a fresh bearing kit.

Duet tub bearing and spider arm

Duet front load drums ride on a tub bearing and an aluminum spider arm, and both corrode in hard water. The first sign is a rumble on high spin. Caught early, the drum assembly can be rebuilt before the outer tub is damaged.

F8 E4 load detect fault

F8 E4 means the machine cannot sense the load, so it pauses, refills and stretches a 40 minute cycle into hours. The cause hides in the pressure sensing system or the control, and we trace it rather than swap parts on a hunch.

F5 E2 door lock fault

A lid lock that will not latch stops everything, since the washer refuses to start until it confirms the lid is secure. F5 E2 points to the lock assembly, its wiring or the control. We carry lock assemblies for Whirlpool top load models.

Questions, answered

Before you call.

Do you repair Whirlpool washers?

Yes, daily, across all of Los Angeles. Onyx Appliance Service is an independent company, not affiliated with or authorized by Whirlpool Corporation. Our technicians work on VMW top load machines with failed shift actuators, Cabrio and Bravos units with rotor position sensor faults and Duet front loaders with worn tub bearings.

Why does my Whirlpool top load washer fill but not spin or drain?

Start with the shift actuator. On VMW top load washers it shifts the drive between wash and spin, and when it wears out the tub stays full and the control stores F7 E1. Replacement is a routine visit for us, and the actuator is a part we keep on the truck.

What does a Whirlpool washer repair cost?

Diagnosis comes first. A technician confirms the actual fault, then presents an exact quote before any work begins, so you approve a number, not an estimate. The $95 diagnostic is waived with your repair. One Quote. One Price. Guaranteed Repair. No Supplemental Estimates.

Do you use genuine Whirlpool parts?

Every part is genuine OEM, matched to your model and serial number before we arrive, and we do not install aftermarket substitutes. Common Whirlpool washer parts, including shift actuators, lid locks and drain pumps, ride on the truck, which is why most repairs are completed in a single visit.

Is the repair covered by a warranty?

It is, and the coverage is written down before we leave. Every Whirlpool washer repair carries the 3 Year Onyx Warranty on both parts and labor, presented in writing at the time of service. If the same fault returns within that window, we return and make it right.
